With environmental philosopher Matthijs Schouten I discussed the relationship we, in the west, have with nature. In gripping terms, he talks about the way our western outlook determines our view of the world and our surroundings. After listening to Tree Tree, he said: “A fascinating song, because it is rooted in a world view that is at odds with our western world view. In the west we don’t ask trees questions. But if we are to achieve a lasting future for mankind, I think we need to make this world view our own again.”
